If your child has a disability there is lots of support available.
You can find support organisations listed in the directory. Search by using the keyword 'disability' or go through the disability section on the home page.
The word 'disabled' covers a very wide range of different conditions and it is estimated that some 15% of people in the UK experience some form of disability at some time in their lives. Remember you and your child are not alone.
The North Somerset Complex and Additional Needs Service provides the following service:
- Responsible for the management and administration of the statutory assessment process and, where appropriate, the production and maintenance of statements of SEN.
- All decisions are made through the weekly Statutory and Complex Issues Panel, which comprises representatives from the SEN Team, Education Welfare Service, Educational Psychology Service, Inclusion Support Service, Social Services and Health.
- Advise on assessment criteria and process; allocation of resources; requests for specialist equipment; transitions and annual reviews; pupils moving into the authority; SEN tribunals; health and safety.
The referral procedure is by the SEN Officers, who are allocated specific schools for whom they are responsible. They are the first point of contact for queries in relation to statutory processes.
