Mellow Parenting

Mellow Parenting is a programme designed to support families with attachment and relationship difficulties with their child.  It combines personal support for the mothers plus video and direct work on their parenting.  It has proved effective in recruiting and engaging mothers who find it hard to access services.  Issues relating to their own childhood and their experience of being parented are discussed.  Mothers attend with their child(ren).

Incredible Years (School age programme) - parenting class

Incredible Years helps parents to understand and manage their child’s behaviour. The programme aims to help parents to increase use of positive strategies to enhance children’s positive behaviours (play, praise, rewards) and to increase confidence in selectively using strategies to reduce unwanted behaviours (limit setting, ignoring, timeout). The programme emphasises the importance of parents’ sharing their experiences and encourages them to look at the benefits and challenges of each strategy to help children to learn new behaviours.

This programme is for Babies, Toddlers, 3-6 and 6-12 year olds. Programmes vary from 10 weeks to 22 weeks according to level of need.

Family Links - Parenting Class

The Family Links Nurturing Programme is based on four building blocks: self-awareness and self esteem; appropriate expectations; empathy; and positive discipline.  These four areas provide the key elements for successful relationships and confident parenting.

This programme is for parents of primary school aged children, although it has been successfully delivered to parents of children up to 14 years of age.  It is not for parents with complex needs.

There are other parenting courses that are run across North Somerset and details of these can be found on the Family Information Service Directory.
