Becoming a mum, a dad or a family is never easy, but being a young mum/dad can be hard especially if you're on your own.
Nobody can tell you what to expect when you become a parent. It's not all fun and games but it can be the most rewarding responsibility you will ever have.
Once the baby is born, you may find it helpful to think about the following things:
- Is there anyone you know who will help out or babysit on a regular basis?
- Finance and housing.
- Returning to education
- Childcare
- Parenting classes and support via children's centres
- Local Parent and Toddler groups
There are lots of useful websites you or your family can access for advice and guidance:
- http://www.brook.org.uk - free and confidential information for the under 25's
- http://www.studentparents.org - Information for parents who are thinking of going to university
- http://www.direct.gov - Information on childcare, grants, jobs and benefits available
